      Great opportunity for a 2nd to 4th year IP/IT lawyer to join a leading corporate within their Technology Legal team, advising on the key areas of IT&T, E-commerce and Intellectual Property management. The team is highly skilled and well regarded within the broader organisation.

      The major responsibilities of the role are in IT&T providing assistance to the procurement team on IT issues, software licences, hardware purchase agreements and electronic delivery channels including BPAY; E-commerce working on website agreements, online terms and conditions, approving new websites and JV agreements with third parties; and Intellectual Property advising on IP issues generally, including infringement and enforcement of IP rights, advising on strategic aspects of trade mark, domain name and patent processes, and overseeing registrations and renewals.

      Our client needs an experienced IT/IP lawyer, with 2 to 4 years PAE. Experience in negotiating, documenting and managing the legal aspects of major technology and other outsourcing/procurement agreements is highly regarded. However, the work is diverse and would also suit a lawyer with strong contracts experience and a practical approach.

      An excellent opportunity exists for an accurate and efficient individual to coordinate the filing of our foreign patent applications. Key responsibilities will include preparation of formal documents, instructing foreign associates, monitoring and completion of filing formalities. Other main administrative tasks include, producing and editing typed materials such as forms, letters and emails, and preparing file bags and other documents and invoices.

      The successful applicant will have good planning and organisational skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent communication skills are required in liaising with internal and external clients, particularly foreign associates. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is necessary along with efficient typing skills and an aptitude to learn and use custom software applications. Preferably you will have some administration work experience and completion in an IP Legal course would be a strong advantage.

      The Role
      As part of the global Legal team, you will report directly to the General Counsel and be providing quality and timely legal advice and documentation including commercial agreements, corporate governance and litigation management. The role primarily supports the DBS Business as well as other Melbourne IT divisions. With at least four years post admission experience this role requires a motivated individual with strong commercial focus, who enjoys working as part of a motivated and successful team.

      Responsibilities include:
      • Executing strategy for the legal function as set by General Counsel
      • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, legal demands and ethical standards that affect business activities
      • Negotiating, drafting and interpreting contracts, assisting management in the negotiation of commercial terms, and ensuring that contractual terms are protecting the company’s interests
      • Drafting/reviewing/updating standard contracts
      • Ensuring protection of the company’s intellectual property rights and maintaining registration and renewal of all business registrations
      • Helping to Identify and brief management on potential and actual legal exposures, and taking appropriate proactive and remedial measures
      • Resolving legal disputes/claims and initiating/defending legal proceedings as necessary
      • Advising on business acquisitions as required

      Requirements include:
      • At least 4 years post admission experience, preferably in commercial law / IT
      • Experience in negotiating global commercial agreements
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Ability to ensure consistency of standards/procedures & promote efficiencies
      • Well developed relationship building skills
      • Negotiation, conflict management skills
      • Outstanding commitment to customer service and internal & external customer experience
      • Good planning, organisational, analytical and decision making skills
      • Sound administrative and time management skills
      • Project management & Problem Solving skills
      • Sound business acumen
      • Computer literate – broad knowledge of window/Microsoft office required
      • Capability to build strong and effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders across different cultures
      • An ability to always maintain a positive outlook and working attitude
      • Confidentiality, tact and discretion when dealing with people
