Choy Lawyers - IP Solicitor

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a lawyer who has worked in trade marks law for at least 4 years. You have an excellent understanding of prosecutions, oppositions and licensing. But not just a trade mark attorney (the qualification is a plus, but not necessary). You understand commercial law as it relates to the development and exploitation of IP. This can cover trade practices and contractual issues as well. You can draft in plain English – accurate yet simple enough for a year 11 student to understand. You’re confident and well presented.

Working autonomously

You’re going to get lots of autonomy, so we need you to be able to make intelligent and reasonable commercial decisions. You need to be able to deliver practical advice to our clients. You’re reliable and capable of working effectively even if no-one is checking on you (because the principal hates looking over your shoulder, he’s already too busy). While there will be plenty of help available whenever you want it, you won’t be heavily supervised, because we believe you should get a chance to shine (we’re very different from the competition).

Working in a team

We’re looking for someone who works well with others. Really. Everyone – including support staff and articled clerks – as an equal vote in hiring you. So no assholes, please.

Family friendly

You will be encouraged not to work too late (beyond 6pm). Because we believe it is important for you to spend time with your family. So if you have a family, we’re here to support you, not to take you away from them. We welcome your application.

Salary

You choose. This isn’t a joke or a trick. Tell us what you think your skills, abilities and attitude are worth. We believe people should be rewarded for their contributions (I told you we’re different).

About Choy Lawyers

We won the award for Best Intellectual Property Law Firm in the Australian Law Awards 2005, despite being a small firm. We work on exciting projects from the graphic design and advertising industries and national and international brand owners – all great, first class clients. We only accept clients by referral (we also systematically get rid of clients we don’t like, regardless of how much they spend), so they’re fun to work with. The firm principal, Trevor Choy, is a renowned expert in trade marks and copyright. Regularly interviewed by the media, he has recently been appointed to the Federal government’s Advisory Council on Intellectual Property. So you have an opportunity to join a firm which has a very exciting future at the leading edge of IP law.
