Minter Ellison - Assessing copyright risk in new classroom technologies

Charles Alexander, Partner of Minter Ellison notes that the increasing use of technologies such as podcasts, chatrooms, online forums and other forms of ‘electronic classroom’ has led to a proliferation of new content created in, and by, educational institutions and notes that teachers and institutions need to consider how best to ensure any new content created will be used lawfully.

According to Charles Alexander, teachers and institutions need to consider:

Who owns new content;
What do I want to do with new content; and
What am I allowing others to do with new content?
Who is creating the content?

Charles Alexander points out that considering these questions is an important part of ensuring that new technologies do not simply facilitate new copyright infringements.
