Portugal: 30% increase of trade mark applications

Class 46 - top of the class for European trade mark news: News from the Portuguese National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The INPI reports of an increase of the number of trade marks filed at the INPI in 2007. In 2007 more than 20, 000 Portuguese national trade marks were filled at INPI, which represents an increase of 30% compared with 2006. On its website the INPI further reports that it has maintained the certification of its quality management system:

“In accordance with the predefined procedure, INPI welcomed the Annual Follow-up Audit, from April 28 to May 2 [2008]. The first objective of this type of action is to confirm, through the gathering of evidence, that the requisites of ISO Standard 9001:2000 are being upheld. The task, carried out by APCER, confirmed that the INPI quality system meets the requirements of the aforementioned standard, which allows the Institute’s continued benefit from the distinction given by the certification it has held for the last two years. This strengthens INPI’s belief in its motto, which is, to protect innovation with quality.”
