UK Gowers Review adopts same approach to Australian copyright reform

The UK Gowers Review has adopted the same approach to Australia in its review over balancing the rights between consumers and creators. In particular, the Gowers Review recommends a stronger enforcement regime, a limited copying exception (which would allow format shifting of legitimately purchased content) and an exception for purposes of parody (as opposed to a broad right of fair use or the introduction of any levy).

Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said that Australia remained a world leader in copyright reform as the Australian Government had “already reviewed these important areas and implemented changes to the law” in the Copyright Amendment Bill 2006.
